iPhone 3,2 spotted on the interwebs

October 20, 2010

Is it possible? Could it really be true? And, amazingly, these things are happening the day after Steve Jobs hinted rather strongly that the company is brewing something wicked cool this calendar year — who would’ve thunk?!?

Boy Genius Report (BGR), quoting “solid” yet unnameable Apple sources, reports that iPhone 3,2 has entered the “AP” test phase, which is the last stage before before retail release. This particular model is widely believed to the “code division multiple access” (CDMA) version of the hot-selling device.

[W]e have been told that iPhone model 3,2 — what everyone is assuming to be the Verizon (or at least CDMA-compatible) phone — just hit the “AP” testing stage. This is the very last stage before retail release; final hardware, almost final software. Here is the odd thing, though… the iPhone 3,2 unit … contains a SIM card slot.

And then there’s “Richy Rich”, who has posted a series of photos that he claims are of the “‘N92DVT’ device, which was reported to be the CDMA version of the iPhone 4 back in August by John Gruber.” Sadly, his badly staged photos that are obnoxiously emblazon with his name only offer one salient detail, “N92DVT.”

Is this our “surprise”?

In Monday’s fourth fiscal quarter results announcement, Steve Jobs said, “We still have a few surprises left for the remainder of this calendar year.” And, then this stuff drops on Tuesday, hmm…

Classic Apple? It sure has all of the hallmarks of the mothership’s skulduggery…

What’s your take?
