Verizon: ‘Iconic device’ pre-orders start Nov. 9

November 4, 2010

Big Red has been training new phone support staff by the thousands and those people will be getting their first real work out starting next Tuesday. But is the “iconic device” the Motorola Droid Pro — i.e. just another Android phone — or is Verizon really gonna try to own Christmas with iPhone 4 vaporware (i.e. won’t ship until next year)?

TUAW reports a “a VZW insider” says notice has been sent to telephone support staff, whose numbers have almost doubled in recent weeks, to expect pre-orders of an iconic device from Tuesday.

Now we hear from a VZW insider that training notices have been sent out to customer service personnel describing an “Iconic Device” that will be available for pre-order on November 9, 2010. The device is expected to be in very high demand, and the training goes on to cover how to handle the pre-orders as they come in.

Yes, the Motorola Droid Pro is expected to become available for pre-order on the same day. Popular though that may be, Verizon didn’t double support staff to handle demand for that device.

The question then is this just a dress rehearsal or is this the real deal?
