iPhone tsunami coming in 2011
In fiscal 2010, the Cupertino, California-based company posted 90-plus-percent iPhone growth. Now, Apple looks set to roughly double sales again and iPad volume will likewise explode.
All Things D, quoting educated Wedge Partners guestimates, says that Apple plans to ship 100-million iPhones in 2011. Add to this 45 to 48 million iPads, and shrinking yet significant number of iPods, 30-plus million, and it another banner year for the Cupertino, California-based company comes into view.
“We believe that Apple’s production forecasts for 2011 suggest iPhone units in the 100 million unit range for the full 2011 year,” writes Brian Blair, Wedge Partners. “While a staggering number any way you look at it, our checks reflect full calendar 2010 builds in the 48-50 million unit range.”
Yes, this indicates about 100 percent year-over-year iPhone growth and that’s just what Apple’s planning for. However, the company often has difficulty producing enough product to meet demand, which could mean that doubling production won’t be enough.
In Apple’s case, is leaving some money on the table necessarily a bad thing?
