What’s coming in iPhone 5
It’s never too soon to start speculating on the particulars of Apple’s next-generation smartphone. That said, Cupertino’s got thin, the camera, display — Retina rocks — and battery well covered. Is the iPhone 4 too perfect to change?
Seriously, if nothing else Apple needs to tweak the antenna, which has delivered better performance for all but the most ham handed. Whether the ultimate fix is a coating to prevent attenuation or moving the antenna back inside the device, where there likely isn’t space, the mothership needs to put some distance between itself and the words “don’t hold it like that” and “antennagate.”
Half empty or half full…
And, the other (non-)gate? The iPhone 4 is simultaneously the most reliable smartphone on the market today and easiest to damage, which is almost entirely about its backside glass. Solution? Just get rid of the glass on the rear of the device or put Gorilla Glass back there, too.
It’s almost a given, whether it’s v4.5 or a full v5.0 whole number bump, that a major iOS update will ship next June. Thereupon, more robust multitasking is a must and so is an improved notification system, two areas where the company’s iPhone, iPod touch and iPad all somewhat lag the competition.
Faster processor, more RAM?
More inside the next-generation iPhone has to be balanced against Apple’s penchant for creating ever small, ever thinner products. It has been speculated that the company could have doubled battery capacity if it hadn’t made the iPhone 4 thinner than the 3GS.
Also, with a 1GHz processor and 512MB RAM, the current model has plenty of oomph.
Thereupon, although we shouldn’t underestimate Apple’s ability to surprise, the guts of the iPhone 5 will likely deliver evolutionary improvements in hardware — i.e. more performance at the same clock speed — and another healthy boost in battery life inside an even slimmer enclosure…
What’s your take?

you’re right, jobs is too obsessed with thin. i’ll take a few added millimeters and twice the battery life over ultra thin any day.
iphone screen is too small. 4.1″ would be much better for reading, web browsing, and gaming.
