Still no Verizon iPhone facts
The rumors have flown for years, saying the Verizon iPhone is just around the corner. However, until Apple and Verizon announce that a Verizon iPhone is officially in the offing, we may all be premature.
It is difficult to remember when the first rumors regarding a Verizon iPhone appeared, but it may have been about 18 months ago. Given the level of service provided to iPhone owners by AT&T, there may have been wishes for a Verizon iPhone before there were rumors, of course. Regardless of when it all began, the world seems to want a Verizon iPhone, the sooner the better. But according to an Information Week story, sooner is not now.
The problem with this desire for a Verizon iPhone is that no amount of third-party rumors will make it so. Verizon has made an announcement about cell phones, of course. That is their business, after all. They have made an announcement that they will be doing an introduction of a new phone (or more than one) at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next month. The difficulty is, it will not be the iPhone that they are announcing. Instead, they will be showcasing yet another Android phone, though this time one which will work with Verizon’s new 4G LTE service offering, which is low on service area as yet, but high on hype.
It may be that only tech freaks, Wall Street analysts, and AT&T customers have any interest in a Verizon iPhone. Given what has been said by Apple and Verizon so far (which is nothing) the two parties most involved may have no interest in a Verizon iPhone at all. The tech press gets a great deal of its nourishment from rumors, especially Apple rumors, so it is understandable that Verizon iPhone “news” continues to appear. It is all in good fun, it could be said, but it is all essentially meaningless until Apple and Verizon say that it is more than just a rumor.
