Verizon sends iPhone invites to existing subscribers

January 29, 2011

The days are getting longer (i.e. Spring is coming), the magic moment is almost here. And, no, I’m not talking about the Vernal Equinox. Whether you call it iPhone liberation day or Big Red iPhone day, the rest of us will soon be packing Apple’s game changing smartphone.

Lots of folks are saying it’s just plain dumb to get a new Apple smartphone right now, just a few months before the arrival of the fifth generation model. Nevertheless, at 3 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3, me and a whole bunch of other existing Verizon subscribers will pre-order an iPhone.

Yes, you can check to see if your current handset is worth anything on trade. My particular Samsung slider POS has, according Verizon, no value whatsoever — tell me something I don’t know, thanks.

Well, there’s always the guy down at the mall with a drawer full of phones. At least he’ll give cash, maybe just a little, for my sad little phone…

What’s your take?

This should be an interesting day for the wireless industry.

I can see why many people would pass on this device seeing as how the next version of the iPhone will be out in a few months (hopefully with 4G speeds).
