No matter how you look at this, Google’s weekend remote wipe of malicious apps from users phones is just ugly, ugly, ugly. Scores of infected apps have been identified on the Market and searchzilla isn’t saying which or if all have been marked for death, and then there’s the involvement of law enforcement.

Phandroids versus iPhonies — let the conflagration build! For some people every infinitesimal shift back or forth in the supposed mobile operating system war between Apple and Google is worth at least is worth at least a few hundred words, especially for the lack of better things to write about on a Friday.

Whereas Verizon’s mobile hotspot package costs the same, the data bucket is only half the size and additional data costs twice as much. Moreover, AT&T’s just announced package offers a huge advantage in terms of cost and convenience that’s sure to attract data-hungry power users.

That there are more apps for the PC, which is billed as being more “open,” than the Mac — can’t be argued. Similarly, whereas there isn’t a single Mac virus — i.e. self-propagating — there are hundreds of thousands on the PC side with more arriving daily. Thereupon, a new twist on the open versus closed paradigm is playing out in smartphones.

The iPhone shouldn’t just be for the rich and the mothership’s acting CEO is hinting the company’s brewing a cost-down version for the prepaid market, which would be pretty darned cool — little Apple-branded iPhone twinkies that are cheap, cheap, cheap or free with two-years of penitence.
