Worldwide iOS-paloosa begins today

April 28, 2011

As Android tablets fizzle, Apple’s back with some international sizzle as iPad 2 goes live and large in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and more. And, OMG, it’s honestly, truly here and everything — unicorns are real and so is the mothership’s iPhone 4 that isn’t black!

Steve fires back over tracking [u]

April 25, 2011

Antennagate was a stupid waste of time and now we’ve got another non-issue to live through — the FUD-filled network news reports and all the hater vituperation. Even as the “story” broke, experts lined up to debunk it — tower not GPS based, so there’s no accuracy and Apple isn’t downloading the file anyway — yet here were are nonetheless.

Its a nice day for a white iPhone [u]

April 24, 2011

Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and caldron bubble and so it shall wrought upon this earth — an iPhone that isn’t black. Wow, glad this is just about over and only a few more rotations until all of that unicorny goodness starts flying off store shelves around the world.

iPhone number one where it counts

April 23, 2011

Here’s a slice of mobile handset business data that nicely frames the question, “Who’s the biggest?” Whereas you can count the widgets, something Android fans never seem to tire of doing, you can also let the dollars do the talking, which is what business is all about.

Apple has reach, Android not so much

April 20, 2011

The premise here is that mobile is more, much more than just smartphones and, when you look at the totality, Apple is the absolute leader. With competitive Android tablets still a distant dream and a real iPod touch competitor all but nonexistent, the fandroids be damned, there’s a lot to sink your teeth into here.

iPhone 4 has replaced our camera

April 19, 2011

Some fresh data from Flickr, indicating that the iPhone 4 will soon be the most popular device among site users, has stirred debate that the Apple smartphone is killing stand-alone cameras. Although point-and-shoot unit volume is still growing, the rise of disruptive Apple products often presages a radical market reshaping.

iPhone 5: Ready for Christmas in October

April 19, 2011

We all feel better when the rumors congeal around a single point and that’s what we’re getting vis-a-vis Apple’s next-generation smartphone, which won’t be arriving in the traditional late June timeframe. However, the new model won’t be particularly new, offering only “slight modifications.”

Square Credit Card Reader now on the Apple Store

April 17, 2011

Remember the FUD from credit card processing giant Veriphone? That the upstart card reader for consumers isn’t safe, secure and probably a socialist plot (I’ve made this part up) to subvert America? Well, Apple has given the Cupertino stamp of good housekeeping by offering it via their online store.

What’s new iOS 4.2.7, iOS 4.3.2

April 15, 2011

It’s Spring cleaning time for Apple’s iOS development team and, some basic bug fixes aside, it’s all about security. If words like “man in middle” and “arbitrary code execution” cause you to wiggle uncomfortably in your seat, then these are must have updates.

Time’s finally right for white? [u]

April 14, 2011

It’s just a color, yet few subjects over the last 10 months have gotten more press and here we wait, especially those that scoff at the notion, but apparently not for much longer. Potentially facing the rest of the year without a new iPhone, Phil Schiller’s Spring promise is about to come true.
