Worldwide iOS-paloosa begins today

April 28, 2011

As Android tablets fizzle, Apple’s back with some international sizzle as iPad 2 goes live and large in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and more. And, OMG, it’s honestly, truly here and everything — unicorns are real and so is the mothership’s iPhone 4 that isn’t black!

The house that Jobs built has announced the white iPhone ships today and iPad 2 availability in 11 countries, including quake-hit Japan, starts tomorrow as in it’s already on sale in most of those tomorrow places over there.

“The white iPhone 4 has finally arrived and it’s beautiful,” said Philip Schiller, senior vice president, Worldwide Product Marketing. “We appreciate everyone who has waited patiently while we’ve worked to get every detail right.”

It’s been nearly a year since Apple announced the iPhone that isn’t black with A4 processor, Retina display, FaceTime and the same price. Enough to carry the company until September’s iPhone 4S release? I’m guessing yes and then some.

For its part, Japan was among the 25 countries in the second iPad 2 rollout wave, but the launch there was delayed due to the 9.0 earthquake, resulting tsunami and nuclear mess.
