iWork goes universal

May 31, 2011

If you’re out and about with your iPhone, it’s now one heckuva lot easier to get serious work. Granted, you probably won’t be creating massive spreadsheets with complex calculations, but data entry and tweaking are certainly within the realm of possibility. Ditto that for word-processing and presentations.

On the same day Apple announced Steve Jobs’ WWDC keynote, the company has dropped a big, big hint about what it’s iCloud service will offer — new universal versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote (iTunes, $9.99 each).

That said, if you already purchased any of these apps for the iPad, you get this update for all compatible iOS devices at no additional — the upgrade is from iPad-specific to universal.

With iCloud coming next week and work-anywhere-versions of the iWork apps now available, it seems a fair bet that Apple’s roundly dismissed iWork.com service will be going away — yeah.
