Who would have thought it possible? Android was clearly on a roll, but the platform’s heady growth in the U.S. was staunched by the arrival of the Verizon iPhone. Apple added a single carrier to the mix and, boom, the Google juggernaut has been neutered.

A “new” report from one of the usual suspects states Apple’s mobile operating system has “full protection” against malware attack and that Android has “little protection.” So, will this news cause you to drop Android and/or switch to iOS? If not, what are you personally doing to protect yourself?

Here’s another way the iPhone clearly excels, leaving the competition in the dust. Granted, for the time being this feature is only available to developers, but the promise is very real. As you’ll see, although it’s still in beta, Apple’s PC free restore functionality is buttery smooth and all but ready for the rest of us.

Everybody knows the story of the recent also rans. However, there’s growing evidence that sales of smartphones running Google’s mobile operating system are about to stall or even fall. Granted, Android devices are still the biggest category, but there’s clearly a new market dynamic at work.

When it comes to desktop browsers, the market is very competitive with Firefox, Chrome, Opera and WebKit nightlies, the developer version of Safari, jockeying for the performance lead. In the mobile space, whereas there are competitors, there’s also a clear winner and that’s Mobile Safari.

Apple seeded a fresh developer build of their mobile operating system at the Worldwide Developer Conference, which winds up Friday, June 10. Whereas, iOS 5 isn’t due until the Fall, third-party coders are already spilling beans on what the new version will (probably) offer.

Wanna stop drunk driving? Four U.S. senators do and think they can aid the cause by banning iPhone apps that, among other things, tip off tipplers to the location of police sobriety checkpoints. That or these politicians rather enjoy reading their own names in the news.
