iOS more secure than Android

June 29, 2011

A “new” report from one of the usual suspects states Apple’s mobile operating system has “full protection” against malware attack and that Android has “little protection.” So, will this news cause you to drop Android and/or switch to iOS? If not, what are you personally doing to protect yourself?

Quoting Symantec’s 23-page “A Window into Mobile Device Security,” AppleInsider reports what we already knew — iOS is “well designed and thus far…has proven largely resistant to attack.”

The flip side is that Google’s Android allows “attackers to anonymously create and distribute malware” and that the OS’ permission system “relies upon the user to make the important security decisions” — yeah, that’s almost always a bad idea.

Android has already seen a number of malware outbreaks and it’s likely that Google’s free-for-all app marketplace is harboring scores of malicious apps right now.

Oh well, are any of you planning to switch to the iPhone because of Symantec’s warning, hmm? You can lead a horse to water, but can’t keep it from drinking too much and then wetting the bed…

What’s your take?
