Pencil iPhone 5 in for mid-September
We’ve been hearing rumors for months, but the sources behind the whispers are starting to triangulate around a look, features and even retailers plans to add employees for the rollout. On the latter, Best Buy, AT&T, Verizon and, yes, even Apple Store are purportedly putting people on in August and September.
With that in mind comes the news from China Times (Chinese, Google translation) that the iPhone 5 will be released in the second week of September. They also state that 400,000 units are being prepared for the launch, which is part of an initial order of 4 million.
What will iPhone 5 look like? The web is awash in schematics and cases said to be designed for Apple’s next-gen smartphone. In summary, the iPhone next will be thin (duh), have a curved metal back (bye bye, glass?) and could have bigger home button (so much for the buttonless iPhone?).
Lastly, regarding the iPad 3, or HD if you prefer, China Times says that it has been “delayed” until Thanksgiving due to component shortages. Whereas I’m skeptical that Apple will produce a pixel-doubled tablet, it’s even less likely that they’d deliver so late in the season, a perilous time should anything go wrong.
