A patch for a hack and an eye for a tooth. Apple is now offering an update that addresses the well publicized “malicious PDF” attack vector. Although, this hack hasn’t yet been associated with malicious attacks in the wild, jailbreakers and their app thieving fellow travelers have.

Call it sheep for the fleecing if it helps keep you regular, but the real import of this news is that the app sector is maturing, rapidly so. Whereas pay-to-play apps once represented a plurality on the App Store, an overwhelming majority are now free (if you don’t make any in-app purchases).

Life in the rumor mill is good. Fresh news out of Taiwan posits that Apple’s CDMA iPhone contract manufacturer has started gathering parts and workers in order to fill a big order. Interesting, it’s also being thrown out there that orders for the model came in well below estimates.
