iPhones are efficient, says Hesse
Once upon a time, Apple smartphone users were known as data hogs — strike that notion from your mind. Those days are done or at least that’s the tale being told by the CEO of America’s neediest wireless carrier. Sprint has been hemorrhaging subscribers for years, but there is daylight at the end of the tunnel (even if it takes until 2015 to get there).
Sprint just reported a loss. However, the nation’s number three carrier also reported higher revenues and an increase in subscribers.
According to CEO Dan Hesse (via AppleInsider), “Our early results selling the iPhone and iPhone 4 confirm the iPhone’s ability to attract new customers.”
The Apple smartphone is the hottest selling device in the carrier’s history and, because of its efficiency, Sprint’s iPhone subscribers are using significantly less data than other smartphones — 50 percent less than “comparable” Android phones — making it “worth every penny.”
“One of the beauties of carrying the iPhone is it extends the period of time and increases the likelihood of us maintaining unlimited data longer because it uses our network so efficiently,” said Hesse.
And, the angels sang
Sprint believes iPhone will add $7 billion to $8 billion in revenue, which makes for quite a combination — efficient usage, a bigger take at the till and all of those sticky, sticky subscribers.
Perhaps iPhone really will be Sprint’s salvation…
