Whatever Apple announces tomorrow — iPhone 5 and/or iPhone 4S (still the Apple TV rumors persist) — the processor inside will be faster by at least an order of magnitude and includes the graphics. Although smartphones and tablets are pretty much all ARM powered, the ones designed by Apple are in a class of their own.

In the internet age, everyone’s a source. Thereupon, the developer references, code snippets and placeholder pages are being bandied about as evidence for and against the existence of various iPhone models that, until Apple says otherwise, don’t exist.

Apple’s original click-wheel iPod has been passé at least since 2007 and the advent of the iPhone. Although earlier reports of its imminent demise were greatly exaggerated, recently we’ve been hearing convincing whispers that the world changing device is going the way of the dodo.
