Official TED iPhone app ships

November 29, 2011

Whereas some folks watch sitcoms and talk shows, I prefer scifi and TED. Happily, enough I’ve got a wife that has similar tastes. However, she carries an iPhone and, although there was a “compatible” app, the TED experience on that 4.5-inch display, crystal clear though it is, was less than optimal let alone enjoyable — until now.

Count me among the 1.9 million people that downloaded TED’s generally excellent iPad app — a source of much enjoyment and erudition. Thanks, love it.

Thereupon, a tip o’ the hat to Mashable, which noticed that TED Mobile has been remade to actually live up to its name and now, so sayeth the spin, delivers an optimized iPhone experience.

Features in TED Mobile 2.2 include such favorites as:

Browse + share: Get the latest TEDTalks and share the goodness via Facebook, Twitter and email.

      • Search by speaker, topic or popularity

      • Inspire Me: Borrows this popular feature from the iPad. Pick a topic or just go random.

      • AirPlay: Built-in AirPlay support on the iPhone app allows users to play TEDTalks on any Apple TV-enabled television.

To run TED Mobile you will need an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 4.3 or later. And, yes, you can stream TEDTalks over 3G.
