Got cash? Stick it in a bank ’cause it’s not good for an iPhone 3G. In order to speed up the check-out process at Apple retail stores, the company will only be accepting plastic forms of payment on Friday for the second-generation iPhone’s release.

Japan is known for its complex cell phones and ridiculously advanced carrier networks, and the iPhone is now set to be released in Japan through Softbank. Will the iPhone’s simple, underutilized power and intense style win the Japanese over, or will they laugh at Apple for FexEx-ing them tech they’ve been using since ’86.

A developer has uncovered a hidden option in the latest iPhone 2.0 beta firmware to disable or enable 3G. Current models hide the option for obvious reasons, but the 3G iPhone is likely to take advantage of the feature.

It’s a known fact: the iPhone hasn’t reached its potential, and it’s clear Apple doesn’t intend on unlocking the phone’s true abilities.
