The iPhone is coming to Wal-Mart. But don’t plan on doing your iPhone Christmas shopping there, as the phones will only be available December 28th.
Thanks to aggressive pricing (and Steve Jobs’ Reality Distortion Field), the iPhone is now officially the best-selling consumer handset. And AT&T is probably thrilled at this development as it means more people are suckers enough, I mean, savvy enough to sign up for one of its pricey data plans.
AT&T might finally release its feature stranglehold on the iPhone, by allowing internet tethering on the device. It’s a pity it’s taken so long when other phones are quite capable of it without a telco’s meddling.
In an announcement that comes as no suprise, Apple’s said no to letting Opera put its popular mobile browser on the iPhone. This is, after all, the company who can’t stand to have App Store apps that compete with anything Apple makes.
Low incomes aren’t deterring iPhone buyers, with more low wage earners defecting to the iPhone camp. The data on the increase of lower-income U.S. consumers buying iPhones comes from surveys by research company ComScore Mobile.
In a rather bizarre example of corporate espionage, an iPod was used to steal data…in India. Investigators found that an iPod was used to beat a rival bid for a lucrative construction contract.
Steve Jobs was personally on-hand when Apple announced it had sold another 11.05 million iPhones this quarter. That makes the total combined 6.9 million so far for the latest iPhone iteration.

A recent survey found that more users surf the Web on Razr mobile phones than on the iPhone. Hardly surprising - the iPhone may be the current ‘it’ phone but Motorola’s Razr line is still outselling it, at least in the U.S.
