Apple has issued an update for the iPhone / Touch operating systems to close five security flaws, four of which were sufficiently serious that they would have allowed an exploiter to execute software on the target device.

Ma Bell got it together and responded to Verizon’s all-in-one calling plan price cuts, which is a welcome change. Nevertheless, the company’s “unlimited” data plans won’t be meaningful to iPhone users until tethering arrives.

In a year when hackers are expected to make Adobe Flash and Acrobat the focus of their unwanted attentions, there are still people out there who want Flash on the iPhone. I guess it’s a matter of taste, like having bits of metal pushed through your skin or trying the Jackass movie stunts at home.

Another New Year has come and gone, and AT&T still hasn’t delivered on their promise to allow iPhone users and their “unlimited” data plans to use their smartphones as modems. Yes, of course, you can hack your iPhone to use tethering, but that also opens you up to some really scary malware.

The world took a turn into the surreal when Fake Steve Jobs (a.k.a. Dan Lyons) made his now infamous call to terms and urged iPhone owners to take part in a flash mob protest where users would use as much data as possible in order to bring Ma Bell’s data network to its knees. Now, AT&T has responded and, if there’s any doubt the company is utterly clueless, this should put that notion to rest.
