It seems Apple got the memo that expensive phones are hugely subsidized to sell (expensive) contracts (which make more money than the handsets themselves). To that end, it may be allowing AT&T to subsidize the iPhone even further by letting the iPhone 2 go for just $200 with a new two-year contract.

Fake pictures of the next greatest Apple product are almost like a tradition by this point. It’s expected. If it didn’t happen people would be asking, “what happened?” So here we are, fake images of the iPhone have surfaced and at least one of them may be the real deal but nothing is certain until Steve Jobs himself walks up on stage and says “this is (the new) iPhone.”

There are two types of iPhone users — the ones that couldn’t wait for 3rd party application functionality and jailbrake their iPhones, and those that have waited like good little Apple-ites for Steve Jobs to open the iPhone Apps store that has been in the works for quite a while now. Word has it that on Monday at the World Wide Developer’s Conference, Steve Jobs will open the iPhone Apps store to the public after the long wait.

We now know that Steve Jobs will be unveiling the new 3G iPhone at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco on June 9th, but details (okay, rumours and speculation) are continuing to be revealed by various sources. The latest concerns the high speed transfers which may be possible using the device, and it seems Australia may be set to be the world leader.

One feature which most iPhone owners would like to see on their gadgets is instant messaging. However, through multiple updates, the feature has remained elusive. However, that could be about to change, with the revelation that Apple has filed for a universal instant messaging patent.

It was only last year that Greg Winn, a top executive with Australian telecommunications company Telstra, was blasting the iPhone, and telling Apple to stick to its knitting. Now, if the latest rumors are to be believed, Telstra will be distributing the iPhone in Australia, and may be launching it in late June. Though there is some evidence that Telstra won’t have the iPhone to itself.
