September 7, 2011

Why on earth would anyone want an always connected iPod touch or, for that matter, why would anyone want a really big iPod touch (a.k.a. iPad)? Hmm, now that I put it that way, the issue fades from “why” directly to how many? Let’s see, I’d love to throw our last feature phone, and I have two kids…

Back peddle, spin: Lost iPhone prototype is real

September 3, 2011

Yesterday, a San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) spokesman read us chapter and verse, ‘There are no records of any such thing.’ Now, a certain Lt. Troy Dangerfield (probably gets no respect) is telling us that detectives accompanied two Apple security “officials” to a Bernal Heights home and someone searched it.

Get a gift card for your ‘old’ iPhone, iPad

When you’re Apple, you often don’t need to invite the media or even send a press release — the world’s loitering on your doorstep and will automatically amplify and repeat anything you say. That’s the case with the fairly hefty upgrade and expansion of the Cupertino, California-based iPad, iPhone, iPod and Mac maker posted without the slightest fanfare.

iOS 5′s iPod touch 3G toggle switch

July 24, 2011

Some people have scoffed at the notion of an always connected 3G iPod touch. I’ve praised the idea and will buy one, assuming of course that Apple actually makes it and no contract is required. Still, I’m not yet convinced it will and won’t be holding my breath until September.

You can feel the [iPhone] love

July 19, 2011

July 14, 2011

We’ve all heard that the Verizon iPhone and iPad 2 have all but killed Android unit volume growth. Now, the other shoe has hit the ground with a resounding thud as a new report details the declining fortunes of Google’s mobile platform among developers.

iWork goes universal

May 31, 2011

If you’re out and about with your iPhone, it’s now one heckuva lot easier to get serious work. Granted, you probably won’t be creating massive spreadsheets with complex calculations, but data entry and tweaking are certainly within the realm of possibility. Ditto that for word-processing and presentations.

Even iPhone 3GS outsells most Android phones

May 9, 2011

Nokia sells a lot of “smartphones,” but no one questions their fade to irrelevance. Google’s Android rabble also collectively generates a lot of units. However, Apple’s iPhone 3GS, which was first shown to the world more than two years ago, outsells the great majority of Android devices, including the newest models.

iPhone, iPad changing reading habits

February 6, 2011

No matter who you look at it, Apple’s handheld and tablet computers are changing the world. Moreover, the early promise of digital periodicals, newspapers and magazines, hasn’t turned out the way many had hoped. Still anything that gets people to watch less television can’t be a bad thing.
